A Dutch group is promoting a really original idea in the domain of hospitality and hotel interior design: a new hotel in Maastricht will be furnished and decorated with second hand furniture and objects bought from privates. This strange but true idea gets inspiration from vintage design made of objects from the past, since unique pieces of design that create an authentic, original and suggestive atmosphere are recovered.
How does it work? Well, it’s quite easy! The hotel invites people to rummage in their attic, cupboards and garages and show them those objects that they want to get rid of.
Since a few years vintage style has found wide consensus in the hotel design: it’s something unusual and original that brings guests back to the past in an eccentric and nostalgic atmosphere. In this case the hotel involves private people in a really clever way, since this move is a way to get the attention and arouse interest since its opening.
Requested objects are a lot: from chairs to tables, from ceramics and paintings till plants, especially cactus. People, besides the fact that they get money selling unused and useless objects, can boast about having contributed in furnishing and decorating a hotel. This operation reflects a trend of the period: thanks to the endless opportunity of on line buying and selling, consumers become sellers. For them a new word has been already coined :Sellsumers, given by the combination of the two existing words consumer+ seller.
