MPLS and High Performance

MPLS (multiprotocol label switching) is the up and coming way for companies to transmit voice and video over a network with little delay and high reliability.   Many companies are using video conferencing over the internet in order to communicate over a wide distance using video and audio, creating a virtual boardroom in which topics can be discussed as if everyone were in the same room.  This technology of transmitting video and audio over a WAN (wide area network) has been around for many years, using a system known as ATM (asynchronous transfer mode,)  but it never took hold as a practical application in LANs (local area networks) to communicate, however it did create improvements in VoIP (Voice over IP) which allowed people to transmit their voice over a network to a specific IP (internet protocol) address.
