Introduction
With the End of Summer now upon us, we all have a feeling of emptiness, wondering where “did all of the time go, and why did it go so quickly”. It seems no matter how hard we all try in managing our time, there never seems to be enough of it to go around, and before you know it, the summer has ended and it’s back to the old grind once again. It may be returning to school, or just to our jobs, the time off we enjoyed for that short period of time, it’s just not enough
September the start of the Fall Season
September is the “Falls Season Debut”, with the fall leaves changing colours to bright orange red and yellow they are absolutely beautiful . While the leaves usually start to turn in the northeastern United States within the next few weeks, much of the country won’t see the first signs of autumn until mid-October.
The leaves’ changing colours are a stress response in trees, as they respond to the normally cooler temperatures and slight drought of approaching winter.
According to Schaberg, “Senescence is a seasonal aging period when leaves stop producing chlorophyll and start storing valuable nutrients in the tree for next year before the leaves drop off. Red leaves also seem to have a stronger attachment to the tree than yellow leaves at the same stage of senescence. “The longer the leaves stay on the tree, the more time there is for their nutrients to be sent back into stems for storage for next year,” says Schaberg. Now that summer’s rapacious mosquitoes and oppressive heat have dissipated, there’s all the more reason to take in the leaves along the region’s waterways, many of them tree-lined and navigable by amateur paddlers. Cooler temperatures and leaves changing colors are not the only indicators that autumn has returned to the Owens Valley. The Range of Light is currently in full “artist’s palette” mode thanks to leaves changing colors as their nutrients are slowly transferred to the roots so the plant can survive the winter and cold
September 9/11 Let us Never Forget
The Morning of September 11, 2001, started as any normal morning, waking up around 8:00 AM, letting out our Doberman named Mooch to do his morning ritual, preparing breakfast and then to relax for a while.
It was around 9:00 AM that morning when my Aunt Jean, who lived next to us, called in a frantic tone “We are under attack” . At that moment I had no idea what she was saying about being under attack. Don’t you have your TV on? No, I said. Well you better put it on. And with that, my Aunt hung up the phone.
So I went into the living room, turned on my TV, and saw a horrific picture on my screen, one of the towers had been hit. But by what was it hit? One of the newscasters mentioned a plane had hit the tower. And then the news showed the graphic footage of the plane hitting the tower. I first thought that it must have been a horrible accident, but was it an accident. Several minutes went by and a second plane hit the second tower. This indeed was not an accident.
Then came the news, that a plane had hit the Pentagon in Washington DC. That was now three. A little later word came that a plane heading for Washington DC had crashed in Pennsylvania. Four planes, with countless number of passengers all lost. But “Why” and for “What reason” did this happen? We all now know who did it, and why. But was it all worth while.
These circumstances all led to an on going war, the fall of one county with its dictator gone. And countless lives lost over and above those lost on those planes, and the person who headed this deadly attack, still walks around free as a bird.
Let us never forget.
The Heroes of that fateful Morning
Looking back on that fateful day, and watching for hours, the heroic men and heroic women who risked their lives to rescue those they could,
Let us never forget
To the brave policemen, firemen who all rushed to the scene of this tragic event, and to all of the places of this horrible tragedy,
Let us never forget
For the families who lost loved ones, and for the strangers we never knew
Let us never forget
For the bravest amongst us, the firefighters, policemen and ordinary people who lost their lives trying to help those in this tragedy,
Let us never forget
Yes September is a month of change, leaves turning colours, temperatures falling along with the leaves of the trees, but always remember those who lost more than just the colour of leaves and warm temperatures, the loss of loved ones on that fateful morning:
Yes indeed, Let us never forget

Conclusion:
September is indeed a time of change, the changing of the colour of the leaves, returning to work and school, a transitional time between summer and winter. But aside from all of the change that takes place at this time of year, it is also a time of reflection, on a happier time of summer. But it is also a time of reflection, remembering a time of not so long ago, when in a blink of an eye, our national landscape, our very lives changed forever. That‘s why we should always remember and:
Let us never forget
