How To Help Your Partner Stop Snoring
Author: Dave Bromley
Do you have a partner who snores? You may love them dearly but in the middle of the night when their loud impersonation of a chain saw is robbing you of your sleep you could happily throttle them.
Snoring is simply a noise some people create when they are asleep. Most people whose partner is not a serial snorer regard snoring as something of a joke. But in the most serious cases it can be a sign of sleep apnoea which causes the sleeper to momentarily stop breathing. This condition needs medical treatment.
There are several reasons why some people snore. They all result in a blockage of the throat, mouth or nose. Whether this is due to your partner having an extra long soft pallet, poor muscle tone or excessive weight the end result for you is the same , sleepless nights.
Short of moving out of the bedroom what can be done to solve the problem?
Eating a large meal or drinking large quantities of alcohol before going to sleep often induces snoring. If you can persuade your partner change their habits to avoid either of these it could lead to more peaceful nights.
Many people only snore when they are lying on their back. This effectively narrows the airway and restricts the flow of air. The answer to this could be to get a Stop Snoring Pillow which are specifically made to assist people who have to sleep on their side.
Another option is to use nasal sprays which work by tightening and lubricating the mouth and throat muscles. These can work very well for mild snorers but for the heavy decibel brigade you may have to consider the use of nasal strips. These work very well for people who when they are asleep breath through their mouths rather than their noses. They are not so effective for those whose snoring is due to some form of blockage in the mouth or throat.
Another devise which helps those who breathe through their mouths whilst sleeping is the chin cushions. They effectively keep the mouth closed and force the sleeper to breathe through their nose. This is often a successful way to prevent someone snoring.
A further option to prevent snoring is the jaw supporter. This works by keeping the lower jaw in an upward/forward position increases the three dimensional space in the airway, reduces air velocity and soft tissue vibration. This action eliminates or substantially reduces snoring.
A jaw supporter allows air to pass through the throat. A constricted or collapsed airway causes snoring. A jaw supporter can hold the lower jaw in a position so that it does not fall backwards or down during the night and cause the airway to collapse. Maintaining a clear airway improves breathing and reduces snoring.
There are a range of jaw supports on the market today but My Snoring Solution Jaw Strap is possibly the most effective. It was developed by Stephen Mathews who was himself a sleep apnoea sufferer. If your partner has a snoring problem then the My Snoring Solution jaw strap could be the answer.
