Nasty And Nice – The Christmas Finger Santa Hat

The holiday season was just starting. You know the time, a few days after before Black Friday, yet weeks before the Big Day. The time children conjure exciting thoughts about Santa and his elves working, feverishly, to load the sleigh with all the toys on their lists. The houses are decorated, porches and lawns ablaze with twinkling holiday lights and figures. Holiday music penetrates the are, and parties abound. Department stores are crowded with shoppers searching for sales and the perfect gift. People toting shopping bags filled with special presents crowd the sidewalks. handmade santa hat

The whole world seems to be a-buzz with activity. There are holiday-themed plays, symphonies, and television shows. The traditional holiday tree in Rockefeller Center lights the sky, as skaters circle and glide on the ice covered rink. Choirs sing praises to God, and children participate in holiday skits to the delight their families. Holiday baking ingredients, needed to make tasty, traditional cookies and candy, quickly disappear from grocery store shelves.

Restaurants are crowded by energy-starved shoppers. The ringing sounds of cash registers and volunteer bell-ringers compete furiously. Streets and highways are jammed with cars, trucks, and semi-trucks; each on a mission. People are traveling to shopping centers, work, school, parties, places of worship, airports, or vacation destinations. Local delivery trucks scurry here and there delivering new appliances, carpets, and furniture to customers. All the while, semi-truck\operators skillfully dodge the traffic frenzy to get their cargo to its destination. holiday decoration

Just about now, the Santa hats begin to adorn the heads of men, women, and kids. Everyone is a Santa, or Santa helper; the holiday rush in on!

And, while a semi-truck driver is stuck in traffic, the offensive Santa hat is born! He’s got time to ponder as he sits stranded in traffic. Idle hands are the devil’s workshop, right? The cars fight to squeeze in line, horns are sounding, drivers with angry and stressed faces glare at the semi-truck operator. Angry eyes and hands jester as four-wheelers express their feelings. On “Get out of my way”, on “I should be first”, on “I’m the important one”, now dash away dash away and “Get out of my way”!

Take a small piece of red paper, or color white paper red with a marker. The paper needs to fit around your middle fingertip. Shape the paper into a cone and tape or glue the opening together. Use some type of white material (a cotton ball works great), and glue it around the base of the cone. Glue a bit of left over cotton, or the tip of a cotton swab to the top of the cone, to make the ball on your Santa hat.

Put the little Santa hat on the middle finger of one of your hands – see where this is going? Yes, the “offensive” Santa Hat is a reality!

Give the ‘bird’ to careless or rude drivers, and get a smile and wave in return. Honestly, people actually smile and ENJOY getting the one-finger salute disguised as a Santa hat!
