Skin Stretch Marks

Nobody likes the looks of skin stretch marks; they’re often red or shiny white and look like long scars across areas of the body. In truth, these marks are a type of scar and can be difficult to eliminate. However, someone suffering from them isn’t just “out of luck” as there are many things a person can do to reduce their appearance or get rid of them altogether. When considering how to get rid of skin stretch marks remember that these affect both men and women alike. People often associate them with pregnancy and this is when they’re most common, but they are the result of the skin being damaged as it’s stretched and this can happen to men as well. It’s not unusual for men that are very overweight to have these unsightly marks along many areas of the body.So how do you get rid of skin stretch marks? Consider a few quick tips.

Moisture is Key

The reason that a person gets skin stretch marks is not just because the skin is stretched; the skin is meant to be stretched and then go back to it’s original shape very quickly and easily. Usually these marks happen when the skin is very dry, as dryness means it loses its elasticity or springiness. This means that moisture is key when addressing skin stretch marks both before and after they appear. If you moisturize your skin regularly then you’re less likely to get these marks in the first place. Pregnant women especially are encouraged to use moisturizers on their growing belly and other areas of the body as well. When you do develop skin stretch marks it’s also good to continue to add moisturizer as this can cut down on the redness and visibility of those marks. A thick moisturizer that penetrates is best, as a thin runny one will not be absorbed properly.

Vitamins Help

The skin uses vitamins to help itself heal, and so moisturizers that contain a high vitamin concentration are best. The skin especially needs vitamins A, C and E to be healthy, so look for a cream that addresses skin stretch marks with these ingredients. Remember that vitamin A is often called retinol, so you may see this listed in the ingredients as well. You can even buy pure vitamin E oil at the pharmacy and put this on the skin as well, although it is somewhat thick and doesn’t get absorbed as easily as other lotions. You may be able to use it on problem areas. And probably the best thing you can do is invest in a good lotion that addresses skin stretch marks specifically and use it regularly. These lotions and creams are meant to be absorbed by the skin in the area of the marks and penetrate deep enough to moisturize the skin from underneath. They will cut down on the redness and visibility of the marks and if used regularly, will help them to disappear completely.
